For the Bread Pudding:

4 cups cubed day-old bread
2 cups milk
1/2 cup sugar
3 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 cup raisins (optional)
For the Vanilla Sauce:

1/2 cup heavy cream

Place cubed bread in the baking dish, then pour the milk mixture over it. Press the bread down to soak evenly. Sprinkle raisins on top if using.
Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the pudding is set and golden on top.
While baking, prepare the vanilla sauce: In a saucepan, combine cream, sugar, and vanilla. Heat over medium, stirring occasionally, until sugar dissolves. Stir in butter and simmer for 2-3 minutes.
