Ingredients
For the Pastry:
- 2 sheets of puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
For the Filling:
- 250g (½ lb) ground beef or chicken
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp paprika (optional, for a smoky taste)
- ½ tsp oregano or thyme
- ½ cup grated cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or feta)
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
Optional Additions:
- Chopped spinach or parsley for freshness
- Chili flakes for spice
- A spoonful of cream cheese for extra creaminess
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Filling
- Heat a pan over medium heat. Add olive oil or butter.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté until soft.
- Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the ground meat, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned.
- Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and oregano. Stir well.
- Once cooked, remove from heat and mix in grated cheese. Let it cool.
Step 2: Prepare the Pastry
- Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut them into squares (about 3×3 inches each).
- Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each square.
- Fold the corners up to seal the parcels, pinching the edges together.
- Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.
Step 3: Bake the Parcels
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper and place the parcels on it.
- Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
