Ingredients:
- 3 cups of flour
- 2 tablespoons of butter (melted)
- 7 grams of baker’s yeast (or 1 packet)
- 5 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 cup of milk (lukewarm)
- 1 egg
- ½ teaspoon of salt
Instructions:
- Prepare the yeast mixture:
- In a small bowl, combine the lukewarm milk, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and the yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the yeast becomes frothy and activates.
- Mix the dough:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, the remaining 4 tablespoons of sugar, and salt.
- Create a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture, melted butter, and the egg.
- Stir until the dough comes together. If it’s too sticky, add a little more flour, 1 tablespoon at a time.
- Knead the dough:
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Let it rise:
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Shape the doughnuts:
- After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air.
- Roll the dough out onto a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness.
- Use a round cutter to cut out doughnuts and a smaller cutter or bottle cap for the center holes.
- Fry the doughnuts:
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the doughnuts a few at a time, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry each doughnut for about 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the doughnuts and let them drain on paper towels.
- Optional toppings:
- Once the doughnuts are cool enough to handle, you can glaze them with your favorite glaze or dust them with powdered sugar.
Enjoy!
