Flaky Meat & Cheese Puff Pastry Parcels

Ingredients

For the Pastry:

  • 2 sheets of puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

For the Filling:

  • 250g (½ lb) ground beef or chicken
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional, for a smoky taste)
  • ½ tsp oregano or thyme
  • ½ cup grated cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or feta)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter

Optional Additions:

  • Chopped spinach or parsley for freshness
  • Chili flakes for spice
  • A spoonful of cream cheese for extra creaminess

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Filling

  1. Heat a pan over medium heat. Add olive oil or butter.
  2. Add the chopped onion and sauté until soft.
  3. Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the ground meat, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and oregano. Stir well.
  6. Once cooked, remove from heat and mix in grated cheese. Let it cool.

Step 2: Prepare the Pastry

  1. Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut them into squares (about 3×3 inches each).
  2. Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each square.
  3. Fold the corners up to seal the parcels, pinching the edges together.
  4. Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.

Step 3: Bake the Parcels

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and place the parcels on it.
  3. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

Formation & Presentation

  • Serve them hot with a side of yogurt sauce, tomato dip, or spicy mayo.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs for an elegant look.
  • Pair with a light salad for a full meal.
