What you’ll need
- 4–5 mm crochet hook
- Thick cotton/cord yarn:
- Royal/cobalt blue — main color
- Pink/magenta — flowers
- Green — leaves
- Yellow/gold — flower centers
- Gold-colored D-rings or bag rings
- Gold lobster clasp/ring for the tassel
- Optional: fabric lining + magnetic snap
- Needle and strong thread
- Scissors
1. Make the main bag
The body is essentially two large rectangular crochet panels joined together.
For the look in your photo, I’d use a diamond/lattice stitch rather than ordinary granny squares.
A practical size is approximately:
30 cm wide × 25 cm tall × 10 cm deep
Make two matching blue panels. Work a dense crochet border around each panel so the edges are sturdy.
The center pattern can be built with:

Use alternating solid stitches and chain spacesto create the open diamond effect.
2. Crochet the flowers separately
Make 3 large flowers for each side, or place them as shown in the picture.
A simple flower:
- Make a magic ring.
- Crochet 5–6 small petals around it.
- Use pink yarn for the petals.
- Crochet a small gold/yellow center.
- Sew the flower securely onto the blue panel.
For the leaves, use green yarn and crochet small pointed leaves around each flower.
3. Add the handles
The handles are basically thick crocheted tubes/cords.
Make two long cords approximately 45–55 cm long.
You can make them using:
- crocheted chain + slip stitches, or
- a thick single-crochet cord.
Wrap/secure the cord so it becomes chunky like the handles in the photo.
Attach each handle to two gold D-rings with strong stitching.
🧵 4. Give the bag its depth
After finishing the front and back panels, crochet a side/bottom gusset in blue.
Something like:

A gusset around 8–10 cm wide will give you the roomy shape shown in the photograph.
Join everything with tight single crochet or a strong sewing stitch.
5. Make the top edge
Crochet several rounds of tight blue stitchesaround the opening. This makes the bag hold its shape.
You can add a magnetic snap underneath the top edge.
6. Make the tassel
For the tassel:
- Wrap blue yarn around a piece of cardboard about 20–25 cm long.
- Tie the top tightly.
- Cut the bottom loops.
- Wrap another piece of yarn around the upper section.
- Trim the ends evenly.
- Attach it to a gold ring/clasp.
The important part
The photograph has quite a structured, dense appearance, so I would not use very soft acrylic yarn. A firm cotton cord/yarn will give you a much closer result.
